This Planet Smells FunnyHuntsville AL (SPX) Sep 14, 2010 Giant planet GJ 436b in the constellation Leo is missing something. Would you believe swamp gas? To the surprise of astronomers who have been studying the Neptune-sized planet using NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, GJ 436b has very little methane (CH4). Paris, France (SPX) Sep 10, 2010ESO has released a spectacular new image of NGC 300, a spiral galaxy similar to the Milky Way, and located in the nearby Sculptor Group of galaxies. Taken with the Wide Field Imager (WFI) at ESO's La Silla Observatory in Chile, this 50-hour exposure reveals the structure of the galaxy in exquisite detail. Moscow, Australia (RIA Novosti) Sep 10, 2010Russian scientists are due to carry out tests of an unmanned lander that will be used in a 2011 mission to Phobos, one of the moons of Mars. The Phobos-Grunt spacecraft will be sent to the surface of Phobos and will then fly back to Earth with soil samples. Two asteroids to pass close to Earth, but won't hit: NASAWashington (AFP) Sept 8, 2010 Two asteroids were set to pass close to Earth on Wednesday but posed no risk, the US space agency NASA said. NASA said its sky observation from Arizona discovered the objects on September 5. One asteroid was believed to be 10 to 20 meters (32 to 65 feet) in size and was expected to pass within 248,000 kilometers (154,000 miles) of Earth at 0951 GMT.
